I've always yo-yo'ed with my weight. Bearing in mind I am 18 years old, I think I can safely say that I have been on some form of 'diet' for the past 8 years. I've never been short of food since I moved in with my Gran at the age of 4, and she used food as a way of showing her love and affection towards me (as many grandparents do). This led to me being a rather chubby child. Now don't get me wrong, I was VERY active. I swam, danced 3-4 times a week, went to stagecoach on a Saturday morning, I loved doing things! But when I was 10 years old and struggling to fit into UK size 10-12 trousers, Gran very abruptly decided I should go on the SlimFast diet.
I've always had a weird relationship with food. I eat when I feel calm or happy, and if there's any stress in my life I either don't eat at all or I stuff my face until I feel sick (I have never made myself sick). But since moving to university in September, my eating, and ultimately lifestyle, habits have changed. Because I have to buy my own food, I plan out the week ahead. Below is an example from my notebook for this week:
I have smoked regularly before university, but I took the challenge 'Stoptober' and managed to not have a single cigarette during the entire month of October. I have bought packets since then when I've felt stressed out, but I'd say I buy one pack of 10 a month? But I know if I managed one month without cigarettes then I can sure as hell do the same again!
Finally, these are the things I would like to accomplish over the course of this competition:
- Maintain healthy eating habits, stick to meal plans but if I slip up, it isn't the end of the world!
- No smoking whatsoever.
- Make full use of the gym again and build up endurance.
- Maximum of 1 fast food/takeaway per 2 weeks.
